Carrying Forward a Legacy of Justice, Faith & Education
The Rev. J. Samuel Williams Jr. & Lyllie B. Williams Scholarship Fund was established to honor the legacy of my parents, two extraordinary civil rights leaders whose lives were dedicated to justice, equality, and education.
Rev. J. Samuel Williams Jr. was a respected pastor, community organizer, and advocate whose powerful voice and steadfast leadership inspired generations to fight for equity and opportunity. Lyllie B. Williams stood with equal strength and conviction, leading with grace and determination as she championed education and empowerment for young people in Prince Edward County, Virginia.
Together, they became a driving force in the civil rights movement—breaking down barriers, uplifting their community, and ensuring that the fight for education and justice remained at the forefront. Their tireless work opened doors for others, and their impact continues to ripple across generations.

The scholarship fund carries this legacy forward by supporting graduating high school seniors and college students who embody resilience, leadership, and a commitment to making a difference. Every donation provides critical resources that help students:
Pursue higher education
Relieve financial burdens
Step boldly into their future
When you give, you’re not just donating—you’re investing in the next generation of leaders who will carry forward the Williams family legacy of faith, courage, and service.
Applications for 2026 open on February 1st
